International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) is one of the three international programmes offered by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
| The IB PYP is a programme that is inclusive of all children and aims to develop them as internationally-minded global citizens who have a deep understanding and respect of their own culture and that of others. Children who are immersed in the IB PYP learn through a variety of teaching methods, with guided inquiry being the most prevalent. This pedagogical approach engages children actively in their own learning, stimulates their natural curiosity, and promotes a spirit of discovery and life-long enjoyment of learning. |

The IB PYP provides teachers with a curriculum framework, within which the BC Ministry of Education learning outcomes must fit. Throughout the school year, teachers deliver six ‘Units of Inquiry’ to their students within six trandisciplinary themes that are globally significant and meaningful to all children. The transdisciplinary nature of the programme allows for children to make connections across the traditional educational disciplines, while still honouring, when appropriate, the need for teaching within one discipline. |
Currently, VIS-Greybrook Academy is a Candidate School. This is the second of three phases schools must go through before applying to become an authorized IB World School.
If you have any questions about the IB PYP, please do not hesitate to speak with Celeste Hambleton, the PYP Coordinator at VIS-Greybrook Academy. The IBO also has an extensive website (www.ibo.org) that can further explain the IB PYP. |
