Katherine Adisa
MYP Coordinator/Science |
After getting her Education degree, Katherine moved to Nigeria to teach high school Science, followed by a year spent running a small boarding school. Katherine then became Head of the Science Department at an International Primary and Middle School. Katherine married and had two children, then worked in Canada for a year before heading to Colombia, where she worked in an international school for nine years. She returned to Canada three years ago to finish her Masters in Educational Administration. Katherine has very high standards for her students, but finds that they set even higher goals for themselves when they realize that, while the teacher may be the tour guide, the learning adventure is theirs alone.
Outside of school, Katherine collects recipes from around the world and can cook almost anything. She loves crafts, drawing, reading, and nature. Her heroes are Bill Nye the Science Guy and Ms. Frizzle. She doesn't think she has a favourite colour, but she loves to create rainbows! |

Dave grew up in Victoria with no interest in computers, and started his Science teaching career in 1970. In 1980, he was introduced to Apple computers in Maple Ridge and the die was set!
In 1985, Dave applied for an innovative grant to use a new business program called 'AppleWorks' in the classroom. Apple awarded the school a networked classroom lab of 16 Apple IIe computers to explore how students might use word processing, databases, and spreadsheets as curricular tools for education. By 2000, the school had over 200 Apple, Macintosh, and PC computers supporting a wide variety of educational programmes, which kept Dave very busy with hardware, software and in-service support!
After retiring in 2004, Dave came back from retirement in February '08 to bring his broad computer knowledge to support Greybrook students and staff with its exceptional program for integrating technology into the curriculum. He enjoys finding new ways to enhance learning and to broaden students' perspectives about the world around them.

Gord Edmonds was born in Vancouver, and graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1971. He began teaching in September of 1972. In 1976, he started work in School District 42, first as the “Teacher-Coordinator of Outdoor Education” and then teaching social studies and computer use. A return to university resulted in a Master of Arts (Education) from Simon Fraser University in 1983.
Gord retired from the public education system after more than 35 years of teaching, but boredom soon became a reality; Greybrook now has the good fortune to benefit from his experience and skills in the IT department!
Gord believes that what students learn in school is the starting point of their entry into their adult life, and helps to prepare them for all of the possible futures that may await them. School is not an end in and of itself, but a beginning! |

Obdulio Fonseca
Intermediate Spanish |
Obdulio was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, and grew up in Honduras. Leo graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, then discovered that engineering was not his calling. He immigrated to Canada, studied English at McGill University, and then graduated with a degree in Teaching Foreign Languages from the University of Illinois.
Leo has since taught Spanish to all elementary grades, and while he teaches the students Spanish, the students instruct Leo in the ways of working with children, including the importance of patience, understanding, and consistency. Leo is pleased to see how much he has learned! Leo is now putting all of his skills and experience into practice at Greybrook Academy.
While in Central America and again in Illinois, Leo had the chance to be part of the Boy Scout program, working to reach the Latino Community and act as a role model for children who didn’t have stable families. He was also part of Costa Rica’s Olympic speed-walking Team! In 2003, Leo discovered Yoga and found that it was the key to maintaining a healthy life (physically, mentally, and spiritually); he is now certified to teach Yoga both to adults and to children.

Linda Nelson comes to us after completing a career in public school education, split evenly between classroom teaching and library management. She took her library courses at UBC while still teaching, and really enjoyed the 'career shift'. She thoroughly enjoys being at Greybrook and thinks our library is just the best place to be! It is very interesting to her to have had the chance to work both in the public and the private school environments.
Linda has quite a few other interests, especially food... She enjoys kayaking, ATVing, swimming, gardening and being outdoors. She also really likes music, painting, and craft work, and, of course, anything to do with books! |

Lynda Watson
Library Assistant/Teachers' Assistant |
Lynda was born and raised in Vancouver and Coquitlam, except for a year spent in England, where she and her sister attended school and acquired an accent and lots of new friends. After high school, Lynda worked in the Port Moody Museum for a year, then attended Douglas College for a Diploma in Recreation Therapy. She worked in a variety of seniors' homes for the next 20 years, doing the most fun job in the world - older people can have a very well developed sense of humor!
A few years ago, Lynda decided she was ready for a change from all that fun and, as she had always loved books, she attended UCFV and received a Diploma in Library and Information Technology. She worked in the public library for 2 years before starting this wonderful job!
Somewhere in there, Lynda married Ron and 6 years later they had their daughter (the best child in the world). The Watsons like to travel, and have been to England and Spain, as well as Hawaii many times.
